USA Permanent Residence Card (“Green Card”)

There are a number of different ways to obtain a Green Card to become a permanent resident in the U.S.A.

A Green Card gives you certain rights and obligations, and with a Green Card, you can later apply to naturalize as a U.S. citizen.

  • Participate in the Green Card lottery
    • The United States’ Diversity Immigrant Visa Lottery program awards up to 50,000 immigrant visas per year.
  • Sponsoring for a Foreign Spouse, Future Spouse, or Relative
    • Current U.S. citizens can sponsor
      • A foreign spouse or fiancé(e)
      • Their foreign children
      • Immediate relatives such as parents or siblings
    • Current U.S. permanent residents can sponsor
      • A foreign spouse
      • Unmarried children (irrespective of age)
  • Refugees or asylees may, within the first two years or being granted such status, petition for certain other relatives to obtain refugee or asylee status
  • U.S. military or their family members may petition for citizenship for family members
