Many Brazilians or other people residing in former Portuguese territory have Portuguese ancestry. A child of a Portuguese parent, or grandchild of a Portuguese citizen may claim Portuguese citizenship by descent.

If you are the grandchild of a Portuguese citizen, your parent will have to claim citizenship, which you will then get. If the ancestor is already deceased, you will need to prove a real connection—financial, emotional, and cultural—to Portugal.

In order to apply, you will need the birth certificates and marriage certificates of your Portuguese relative(s), and for each of the family members between you and that relative.
