Regaining Ancestral Citizenship

Many countries allow the descendants of former citizens to “regain” citizenship. For example, a person born in the United States of America to two Italian immigrants is immediately born with citizenship of the U.S.A. (by the principle of jus soli) but this person may still be able to apply to be a citizen of Italy via his or her Italian bloodline (jus sanguinis) which is Italian.

Or, for example, many families left Europe to escape World War II and now their living descendants may be able to apply to regain the citizenship of the countries their families fled.
