In general, regaining Austrian citizenship via ancestry is a very straightforward process.
However, usually Austrian law does not allow for dual citizenship, and gaining Austrian citizenship may mean giving up your current citizenship.
Austrian citizenship is passed down by birth, or jus sanguinis.
Before September 1st, 1983, the citizenship could only be passed to children by the father (meaning that your father must have been Austrian, regardless of the citizenship of your mother). However, children born after September 1st, 1983 to an Austrian mother are also considered Austrian citizens.
In order to apply, you will need the birth certificates and marriage certificates of your Austrian relative(s), and for each of the family members between you and that relative.
